Fall into design: Warm, layered, and richly curated

Hello friends & design lovers,

As the leaves turn and we cozy up indoors, fall always delivers fresh inspiration for our homes. In 2025, the trends lean warm, tactile, and a little nostalgic—with a modern twist. Below you’ll find the top picks for paint colors, cabinetry, fixtures, kitchens, bathrooms, and more to keep your space feeling current (yet timeless).

Paint + Wall Color Trends

Warm, Earthy Neutrals & Organic Tones

Cool grays and stark whites are giving way to richer, softer neutrals: beiges, creams, mushroom, clay, and taupe are getting renewed attention. Designers cite a desire for “warmth” across interiors, and these tones help ground a space in comfort. Houzz

Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year 2025 — Cinnamon Slate (a soft blend of plum + brown) is part of a trend toward subtly moody hues rather than bright primaries. Benjamin Moore

Accent & Statement Colors

  • Jewel tones like deep emerald, sapphire, and ruby are being woven into kitchens and accent walls to create drama. Decorilla+1

  • Rust, ochre, and “marigold” tones are modern take-overs of traditional fall oranges. These feel warm but more sophisticated. Homes and Gardens

  • Muted mauve / eggplant is seeing renewed interest—especially in pairing with warm browns or neutrals. Homes and Gardens+1

Color Capping / Gradient Walls

One rising technique: paint gradation on a single wall from darker at the bottom to lighter above (or reverse). The effect is immersive and layered. Homes and Gardens

Cabinet & Built-ins

Two-Tone Cabinets

Switching up upper vs. lower cabinet colors is still very much in. For example, a muted green or mocha on the bottom, white or wood tone above. Better Homes & Gardens+1

Dark, Moody Hues

Don’t shy away from deep shades—inky blue, forest green, or charcoal are being used on lower cabinets or kitchen islands to add weight and depth. Better Homes & Gardens+1

Wood & Natural Finishes

White oak, warm oak, and natural wood grains continue to be strong choices. They pair beautifully with stone, metals, and color. Better Homes & Gardens+2Houzz+2

Accent Panels & Integrated Cupboards

Cabinet doors or panels with texture, inlays, or mixed materials (wood + metal) are trending. Plus, more “cupboard-style” built-ins that disguise appliances are being used. Emily Henderson

Fixtures, Hardware & Finishes ,Soft Metals & Mixed Finishes

Brass, warm nickel, and muted gold are preferred now over harsh black. Many designers caution against overusing black hardware, which can feel heavy or dated. Maria Killam | Timeless Colour+2Houzz+2

Expect mixing—say, brass handles with a nickel faucet or copper accent pieces. Better Homes & Gardens+1

Curves & Rounded Details

Gone are the days of only straight lines. Curved faucets, softly rounded edges on counters, and arched mirrors or cabinetry bring softness to functional elements. Houzz

Statement Lighting

Lighting is being treated as sculpture: oversized pendants, layered fixtures, and fixtures with sculptural silhouettes are showing up in kitchens, dining rooms, and bathrooms. Houzz+1

Kitchen Trends

Bold Backsplashes & Backlighting

Accent backsplashes are getting more attention—think dramatic tile, bold color, or backlit surfaces that make the backsplash its own focal plane. Decorilla

Textured Walls & Ceilings

Plaster finishes, shiplap, or textured treatments are creeping into kitchens to soften hard surfaces. Decorilla+1

Integrated “Hidden” Appliances

Fridges and ovens are increasingly concealed behind cabinetry or designed as furniture pieces so they blend in rather than stand out. Emily Henderson

Layered Materials

Stone, wood, and matte surfaces mixed together—perhaps a marble waterfall island, oak lower cabinets, and a muted colored upper—is very on trend. Decorilla+1

 Bathroom Trends

Warm Neutrals & Organic Materials

Bathrooms are shifting from stark white toward warmer stone, taupe, and cream palettes. Natural stone, terracotta, and clay elements (tile, sinks) are being used. Houzz

Integrated Makeup / Vanity Storage

More planning is going into grooming zones—pull-outs, built-in compartments, and vanity storage for beauty tools to keep counters clutter-free. Houzz

Statement Mirrors & Lighting

Oval or rounded mirrors, layered backlit mirrors, and vertical lighting are being used to elevate the space beyond just function. Houzz

Warm Metals & Mixed Finishes

Again, expect to see brass, bronze, or warm nickel in faucets, shower heads, and hardware—often paired with more neutral tile or stone for balance. Houzz+1

Décor Accents for Fall & Layering Tips

  • Tapestries & Wall Hangings are back—textile art, vintage-inspired prints, or woven pieces add texture and visual interest. Homes and Gardens

  • Vintage & Retro Accents like curved furniture, braided detailing, or midcentury-inspired shapes help inject character. Homes and Gardens+1

  • Layered Lighting + Ambient Sources such as table lamps, uplights, and accent lights make spaces feel moody and dynamic. Homes and Gardens

  • Botanical and Earthy Touches: Dried florals, grasses, ceramics, and natural fibers help tie the interior to nature.

  • Block Prints & Bold Patterns in textural wallpapers or textiles are trending for accent walls or textiles. Homes and Gardens

What’s Fading

  • Overuse of harsh black hardware & faucets is being questioned; many designers now recommend softer metals for longevity. Maria Killam | Timeless Colour

  • Stark, cold white walls / interiors are losing favor—warmer neutrals are preferred. Maria Killam | Timeless Colour+1

  • Ultra-minimal, totally monochrome looks are being softened by texture, layers, and warmth.
